While we love talking about all things homeware and décor, we know it's important to share the story behind the owner of Know the Rose. So, meet Rosie, a passionate designer and maker based in Sydney's Northern Beaches.

How did you discover your love of homewares and interiors?

I spent many hours, weekends and nights after school at my parent’s homeware store 'Rust'. It's hard not to fall in love with interiors when you're surrounded by the kinds of pieces my parents would discover - they are very passionate and talented themselves and I'm so grateful I was surrounded by that growing up.

What did you do before Know the Rose?

Being a Graphic Designer had always been a dream of mine, so I studied and worked in Graphic Design throughout my early 20s. I loved the industry and people I got to work with but being able to experiment creatively and work with my hands were calling out to me!

What's been a highlight of your Know the Rose venture so far?

I can't express how exciting it was for me to see my business featured in Frankie Magazine. I've been reading and collecting this mag since I was young, so when a follower messaged me on Instagram to say they had seen my work featured I literally stopped what I was doing and was at the local newsagency within 10 minutes to see it for myself. It was a real 'pinch me' moment.

What's your favourite part of the job?

I will never get tired of my flower market trips! It may be an early 4am start but the energy and beauty of the flower market is the highlight of my whole week - a hot coffee helps too.

Favourite flower?

Definitely, daisies.

Do you have advice for someone wanting to start their own business venture?

Don't underestimate yourself! If you're feeling not so inspired by your job, or like your career path needs a change, I know firsthand how daunting it can be… But if you're truly passionate and love what you're doing, it's all so worth it.
